Walking Around Buenos Aires

The city was wonderful to just wander around. It has so many different areas to explore.

Very interesting that the city has a monument very similar to the Washington Monument in DC.

This is Florida Street - an area known for shopping.

This is the San Telmo neighborhood - one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires. There is a market that happens in the middle every weekend.

Streets close off on weekends for a market.

Cute place where we sat and enjoyed the market.

Buenos Aires was fantastic and we can't wait to get back there.

Flamenco Show

Abhay took me to a Flamenco Show at La Ventana.  The restaurant was very cute and the show was amazing.  The show was more than just dancers but also had various musicians and other cultural acts.

Malambo is an Argentinian folkloric dance. It is the only dance of Argentina that doesn't have lyrics in its music and it is only danced by men.

This pan flute musician was amazing.

Recoleta

I was very excited to visit Abhay in Buenos Aires. He had been there all summer while I was in Miami and then India. The city was a fascinating mix of old and new and all very European in style. This is the view from his apartment.

On a walk to Recoleta.

Recoleta is a neighborhood (barrio) in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This typical "French architecture-style" district is known for its squares, parks, cafés, galleries and the La Recoleta Cemetery Cementerio de la Recoleta, one of Argentina's most important cemeteries.

Right outside the main gate.

Inside the cemetery there is just a maze of graves.

Oddly enough, there were cats everywhere. It brought a whole new meaning to the ancient belief in Greece that cats are guardians of the dead.
