Jodhpur (Blue City)

We left Mumbai and flew to Jodhpur which is in the Rajasthan area of Northern India.

Most of these small airports in India don't have jetways and you just walk out to your plane.

The city is known as the "Blue City" for the predominant color of the homes.

The main attraction in the city is the Mehrangarh Fort which is one of the largest forts in India. It was finished in 1678.

There were breathtaking views of the city from the fort.

The frescoes inside the fort wall were all carved out of red sandstone.

One of the interior rooms - Sheesha Mahal - The Hall Of Mirrors:

One of the many outside balconies.

One of the seven gates leading up to the fort.

The fort also houses an impressive collection of elephant howdahs - which are the seats fastened to the elephant backs and used by the royal men for travel.

Royal ladies were carried around in palanquins - men would carry them using long poles on each side.

The Jaswant Thada is an architectural landmark located in Jodhpur. It is a white marble memorial built in 1899.

The final site we saw is the most recent palace built in India - Umaid Bhawan Palace. It holds the royal residence, a hotel and a museum.
